In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul echoes the words of Psalm 116:10: "I believed, so I spoke." In the midst of his deepest trials, Paul found his strength in his belief in God. He believed in God's presence and proclaimed it boldly, even in the darkest moments. The Psalmist shared this same unwavering faith. In the depths of his despair, he, too, found God to be his center, his foundation.

What lies beneath our sadness, worry, frustration, or anger? These are powerful emotions, and it can be difficult to believe that, as Christians, no matter the circumstance that brings us to this place, there is still a hidden well of strength within us. But this is not a strength born of our will; it comes from something more significant. It is the peace of knowing Christ and finding our refuge in Him, our strong tower.

The Hallel Psalm (113-118) is filled with praise, thanksgiving, and celebration of God's deliverance sung by Jesus the night He was betrayed and arrested—at the very moment of His deepest anguish. Yet, even in His darkest hour, He turned to His Father, singing a song of faith and proclaiming the unshakable peace that comes only from God. Jesus knew that His Father was His peace, His refuge, even in the darkness of night that leads to death.

In Christ's resurrection, we find His victory over death and our eternal life in Him. When the storms of life come, in Christ alone we stand firm, knowing that we are hidden in Him, our strong tower. In His resurrection, we are invited to participate in the power of God's peace that surpasses all understanding and endures forever.
