The Waltz

I was standing outside by the water on one of those cool hazy kind of evenings. A heron not too far in front of me was trying his best to catch dinner before the darkness of the sky put the day to sleep. I was immediately captivated by the slow and graceful strides of this incredible creature. So peaceful and elegant yet obstacles all around him. Watching him was like watching a waltz on the water.

When Moses started laying out the story in Genesis, one of the early characters was a man named Enoch. This man was Noah’s Great Grandfather. It says that He walked with the Lord. I don’t know about you but when I read this I can’t grasp that he actually walked with the Lord. I am so far removed from anything and everything that happened 5000 years ago. Here’s the thing, Enoch and I serve the same Lord. But are our walks of faith with the Lord the same although his was physically with Him and mine is spiritually with Him? May it be so, Lord.

Hebrew 11 is commonly known among believers as the faith chapter. It teaches us the faith of Abel who made a more acceptable sacrifice to God than his brother Cain. This story from long ago speaks to us today about our relationship with God. Abel gave the gifts he had to the Lord and the Lord saw the righteousness in his heart. How about Enoch? He was carried away by the Lord without seeing death. Why? His faith. He walked with his Lord and the Lord rewards those who seek Him.

Do you see this wonderful dance with the Lord that happens when we walk by faith?

That Heron finally caught his dinner! But not without a few obstacles. I watched it move all through the bay shore weaving in and out of the palms and other obstacles set in his path.

Whether a herron or human we all have obstacles. This is life. More importantly we can’t miss this… we have an invitation from the Creator of the sunrise and sunsets to not only walk with Him daily but to dance before Him like David did. It only requires one thing. FAITH. It is what the men of 5000 years ago experienced that is also something we as followers of Christ are invited to experience right now as you are reading these words.

Dance my friends. Dance without worry. Dance without care of who’s watching. Dance because the moment will be like no other. Dance because He loves you. And when you do, the Lord will be watching and taking great delight in you.

“Hear me, LORD, and have mercy on me. Help me, O LORD." You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever!”

Psalm 30:10-12 NLT
