Caption: It was with great joy that I hung one of my most meaningful pieces in its new home last night. This month marks the ending of the fifth year for Day Five Art Gallery and I'm beyond grateful to be here doing what I love -- painting sea life and sharing the Gospel. I thought it would be good to reshare my story behind the piece.... The Dream -- 1 Peter 1:3-9 We all have dreams and a hope that our life will have a sense of enjoyment and meaning. As we grow into adults, we allow our past and present influences along with life experiences to come together giving them permission to mold us. I have to admit, I set up camp in my own mind and heart of what I thought life should look like to be successful. I built false dreams around each one. Being the man of the house, it was a life of working hard for money in my pocket, a nice home with a few kids, nice cars, vacations, and not a lot of struggles. While there is nothing wrong with having all of these things, they can not be our idols. We must put Jesus above everything. Today. when I revisit the dreams of my younger less mature self, I see that they were only a cheap cover-up from a heart struggle of fully trusting God with my life. Jesus said, "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:29 In the turning over of one's self to Christ and the realization that our struggles when completely laid down at the Cross are able to be made into something glorious for Christ's sake, not our own. A little over seven years ago, I laid my life down completely, allowing Jesus to lead me and my family daily. In that single heart change, He began to give us rest for our soul. Boy, were we were exhausted from trying to keep up with the world's standards! Our new life in Christ today is much better than anything we could have built on our own. Today, we no longer want to live life for our own purpose. Our life is for God. I'm just really grateful He purposed me to share the gospel story through sea life art.
